That’s 2,000 bottles every month!

Exciting News!

THE FISHERMEN OF OGYRE

The fleet collects waste during their regular fishing trips.

DISPOSAL

Onshore, the waste is weighed, analyzed, and sorted for proper disposal.

NEW RESOURCES

When possible, waste is repurposed and reintroduced into the recycling chain.

THE COMMUNITIES

Local communities, who are directly impacted by the health of our oceans, gain a new source of income through this project!

Le Coq Porcelaine in collaboration with Ogyre presents the campaign “fishing for litter”

OGYRE X LE COQ PORCELAINE

ILSA continues on its path of social and environmental sustainability by announcing a collaboration with OGYRE, the start-up company that has been committed to protecting the oceans and biodiversity for years with its fleets in Italy, Indonesia and Brazil. The company is particularly sensitive to issues aimed at reducing environmental impacts in order to preserve and leave the planet in good health for future generations, and therefore wishes to make a concrete commitment with targeted initiatives.

With this in mind, ILSA has decided to start a FISHING FOR LITTER campaign, which intervenes directly on the seas to make up for the damage caused by pollution and promote the sensitivity needed to protect the planet and the biodiversity that populates it.

THALASSIOS FOR THE OCEAN

The FISHING FOR LITTER campaign was presented at the same time as the brand new THALASSIOS collection specially designed to symbolise the company’s proud commitment to caring for the environment.

Our project engaged the Ogyre fleet to recover

175 kg of plastic from the Atlantic Ocean, equivalent to 17.500 water bottles!

Few facts about the situation of our seas

L’inquinamento delle acque per opera delle attività umane causa l’esaurimento delle riserve ittiche, la perdita di habitat naturali lungo le coste, alterando l’ecosistema marino e mettendone a rischio la biodiversità.

Water pollution caused by human activities causes the depletion of fish stocks, the loss of natural habitats along the coasts, altering the marine ecosystem and putting biodiversity at risk.

According to the research Plastic waste inputs from land into the ocean, 12,000 tons of plastic are dumped into the oceans every year:

about 26 billion kilos, or the equivalent of more than 100,000 fin whales

Fishing For Litter

Ogyre connects organisations such as Ilsa that want to protect the sea with the fishermen involved in the project.

The fishermen involved work by collecting rubbish while carrying out their usual fishing activities (not only in Italy, but also in Brazil and Indonesia!).

Once on land, they unload the waste, which is then weighed, analysed and categorised. Before handing it over to the organisation in charge of disposal, the waste is stored on a digital platform.

In this way, those who decide to support Ogyre’s mission can monitor their contribution to cleaning the ocean.

Real and tangible benefits of the project

Taking action to protect the sea and reduce the amount of man-made waste

Encouraging the concept of “responsible consumption and production”: waste collected by fishermen is disposed of properly and, when possible, recycled and used by Ogyre to make new products that can be purchased by those who want to contribute to cleaning the ocean

Supporting fishermen by directly supporting their fishing activities, thus acting directly towards the promotion of ‘decent work and economic growth’ of local communities.

Ogyre is the first B Corp start-up to have developed a fishing for litter platform, a practice that aims to clean up marine litter with the help of fishermen. Ogyre involves people and companies in its mission, either by directly financing the flets of fishing boats engaged in collection projects, or through the purchase of products made of reclaimed materials.
